6 min read is the new 3 min read.
Yeah, this is a tiny sample size, I know. But lately, longer reads have dominated my feed.
Have you noticed that?
It’s almost like people don’t have time for us 2 min guys anymore!
Medium is great
I love how there’s like a sub-culture of people who write and report on Medium and their progress as a business. It’s a system — well, excuse me, I should say it’s more like a digital community.
Content creators: we are a part of this. If Medium is a big part of your performance as a blogger or writer, you should take interest in how your work is distributed.
So, I have a say. (sorta)
To me, it’s important to weigh in on what’s relevant and changing around on this platform.
Long reads are okay
Don’t get me wrong, I love a hearty Medium article every once in a while. Quality, buffed-out writing is great and I encourage it completely.
But once I start seeing 20, 40, 146 minute reads on here, I can’t help but question their utility for this online forum. It’s just gets a bit dense on the screen for me.
Personally, I’m a 2–7 min kind of guy. Anything beyond that, I start scrolling to see how much more is left.
Is it possible I’m just like a squirrel who can’t focus? Definitely, maybe.
But, honestly, I think a lot of Members enjoy the short and sweets, too.
