Changes I’d Like to See on Medium
Three things every user on this platform could benefit from.
Medium is already an amazing place for readers and writers to congregate. But, as with all things, there’s room for improvement.
Here are 3 features Medium should add to the App:
1.) Word count > Many writers, including myself, enjoy word count as a reference when writing. It’s nice to look up and know exactly where your article is at. I understand Medium converts words into read time, but I think many writers would benefit from knowing the exact amount beforehand. We could write more consistent posts and better manage our writing output.
2.) Typo alerts > Any writer understands how maddening typos are — especially after you’ve hit the publish button. If Medium added a feature where readers could notify the writer of any typos, that would be so helpful! Sort of like the highlight feature. You could highlight the typo in red, then the writer would get a notification and quickly correct it. Even better, only the writer could see the typo highlight; that way the error isn’t amplified.
3.) Personal Messaging > Really just makes sense. This is a cornerstone feature to any kind of social app. It would be cleaner to have private conversations when necessary instead of creating a bunch of responds. These show on your profile and responds can be confusing to follow at times. Of course, you could turn off the PM feature if preferred. However, it’d be a great option to have for those open to private inquiries.
Well, that’s it.
So, those are three changes I’d like to see. I use Medium mainly through the mobile app and I am not a member. I’m not certain if these features are available in other circumstances. If they are, be sure to let me know!
