Free Writing, Trouble, & New Ideas
A stream of thought and reflection for the day.
Sometimes, I like to just sit and blog like a 5 year-old. I know nobody’s going to read this and I don’t care. It’s fun to simply say whatever, however, without concern for the aftermath.
I like to write with the time. I like to follow the currents.
So much of what I want to say comes and goes by the week — it’s like we’re always doing now. What sits at the forefront of my brain is momentary; it bounces like a slow, unsteady focus for the world around me.
I gotta catch these things and set ‘em free.
That’s what it means to write with the time. I’m doing it now, but it’s the hyper-version; I’m free writing. No planning or expansion, just happening. It’s thinking out loud.
When I’m writing, I’m relieved.
When I imagine the benefits of blogging, “therapeutic” comes to mind. But not in a bad way. Sometimes I just don’t say enough of what I should say. Writing gives me that chance when I’m really thinking.
Expression of ideas come in all shapes and sizes. This is one. Writing. Just do it, get it out. Regardless where the fuck it goes and who hears — just say and let it be.
What happened today?
Well, I woke up to some unfortunate news from Medium Staff. Another one of my stories got yanked from the Partner Program.
Did you know you can’t primarily talk about Medium and sell it? I didn’t, but it makes sense, I get it.
Here’s the rule:
A couple of months ago, I did not know of this rule. That said, I’ve broken it very bad in the past. I seriously didn’t know better. So yeah, I understood when they took down my “5 Ways Medium Could Still Grow.”
I get it. Really.
Another story got taken down today, one that I posted last week about clapping, encouragement, and my little niece. 😪
It was this one:
When It’s Not Okay to Not Clap
The buzz came to a hush and the lights dimmed away. Parents hum as the curtains tow aside; tonight’s show beams…
Apparently, I touched on Medium too much? (Wait, that sounds filthy) But I really don’t think I did! My honest allocation would be 70% Non-Medium, 30% Medium-related.
See for yourself. What would you say? Is Medium my “primary focus” there?
Okay sure, I’m sorta butt-hurt — the story did well for me, it was killing! I was well on my way to racking up a months-worth of Chipotle.
(sigh) Oh well.
The midnight Medium fairies struck and magically unlocked my story.
And with it, they took all my earnest claps.
However, there’s hope. I’m currently swapping emails with someone from Medium to see if they can work with me. Maybe this’ll help. Nevertheless, I always have faith in the people at Medium.
I’m working on 3 different stories.
I’m pretty stoked about what’s to come next in my writing over the next month or so. I’m starting to work around some really smart, creative people online and it gets me excited.
I wanna put out the best content I can; I believe in the align-minded.
Also, I’m a top writer in Music and Satire.
That’s hilarious. Fucking music and satire. Ha!
That said, this week I am writing about America, infrastructure, and the Planet Fitness brand. One is for the music world, another for the creative, and finally one for my new Medium Publication, Cover Brands.
Shoutout to anyone working around that with me. 👆
I’m also scheming on something for my personal blog, AppKnow.
Alright, I’m outtie for the night.
