Once upon a time, I wrote on here every single day. It was fun. I liked coming up with story ideas, sharing insights, and engaging with my “Medium friends.”
But that died.
The communal aspect went away. My friends’ writings got lost in all the fancy, new curated stories Medium started pumping out. Stories are worth a dime a dozen, or a penny, these days. Nobody claps anymore and everyone writes about boring topics.
This platform is less entertaining, productive, and interactive, in my [worthless] opinion.
But now I kind of just want to treat this like a journal.
A public journal is very different from a private journal, in both good and bad ways.
It’s good because you have to think about what you want to say.
It’s bad because you have to think about what you want to say.
Private journaling is more emotion / feeling based. So it’s very free-flowing and simple and no ones gonna read it anyway, so you might as well say exactly what’s in your head with no second guesses at all.
Public journaling is more creative / logic based — which is cool, too. But it’s slower and less fun. You have to think about the reader. You have to think about the headline. You have to make sure it’s long enough to get curated. And graphics. You need graphics. And structure. And you should consider the best time of day to publish. Oh, and that paragraph doesn’t flow into that paragraph really, so you might as well delete the entire thing and start all over and take 5 minutes to write a single sentence.
Above all though, writing out loud makes your brain work. You have to think harder than if you were to simply write alone in a journal.
So I’d like to write here more often. But in a more relaxed manner with less consideration for you and the end product. Sorry. I just want to focus on thinking and communicating my thoughts and wonders.
Writing is exactly like thinking, after all.
I’d love to start writing everyday again.
