In hindsight, looking back on writing this 5 years ago, I agree with you completely. It’s not a good idea; but intriguing nonetheless.
On the surface, UBI sounds great to a person who’s young, “figuring out life.” It provides a financial pause in order to soul-search, explore new interests, and spark entrepreneurial endeavors. But as a solidified amendment to society as a whole, it would ruin us surely.
I think UBI has a place IF it’s built in only for a short, fixed period of time.
For example, let’s say when you turn 25, you get a lump sum “universal basic income” of 20k dollars. Everyone gets it with an intention designed to stimulate the economy and help young adults right wrongs made purely out of naivety or bad luck.
I think it could be a built-in milestone designed to provide financial freedom and relief.
