Quarantined With Corona, Lacking Water, Bored Out of Skull In Room
Despite my contrarian tendencies, I’ve accepted the fact I’m quarantined. No, I don’t have the Coronas and I don’t want ‘em. I’m staying in my room.
My room is actually not bad.
I thought about it, I wake up in my room everyday. It’s good to have a room. It’s also good to wake up. My room is relatively spacious, moderately clean, and stores some cool stuffs. There’s room for activities. I have a queen-sized bed to myself. Yes, I’m bored out of my skull because the Coronavirus.
Some days my room is bright and sunny. Like this:
It’s either a Saturday or Sunday if I’m waking up to the sun. It’s the best when you wake up and feel sunbeams breaking through. The day always feels light and full of potential this way. I can usually spot dust particles floating about as I peer around. The fan’s going. Before I get up, I sometimes peek through the window to see the trees and sun and sky.
On days like this, it’s like my room smiles back. It caresses me. Weird, I know, but we get to take our sweet time today. I don’t have to work; I don’t have to be anywhere. The two of us, my room and I, can just be. In peace.
On a Saturday, I’m likely to go downstairs, make a piping hot, delicious cup of coffee and come back up and fire up this baby:
Alright, this thing slaps. And it makes a cool little “doo-doo-dupe” sound when you turn it on. On a day like this, I’ll listen to something casual like a John Mayer or Frank Ocean. I’m tryna ease into the day and relax, mate.
A couple weeks ago, I listened to “One More Year” by Tame Impala on repeat and did laundry. It was groovy and the two activities seemed to blend together quite well. Another perk is that I can shoot my socks into the dresser across the room. My room is big enough so it’s actually a fun, little challenge. It motivates me to match my socks.
Occasionally, I’ll pop a squat on my mini-futon and appreciate the symmetry of my double-wide closet — I can fit so many skeletons in there. My walls are beige which is not my first choice of color, but it’s decent nonetheless. I prefer white because it feels more open. But I’m renting, so I don’t really care.
This is my half-organized, half-messy section in the room. Lots of essentials: Mugs. Bible. Midi. Bullets. Wrapping paper. Pumpkin spice candle. Empty diploma case. Flashlight. Earmuffs. My room is full of utility. Things that do things. I don’t have a lot of decoration.
Okay, I don’t fool around here. This is where I get it DONE. At my desk. A small complex for my gadgetry. You’ve got the MacBook Pro, Beats EP headphones, wireless mouse, Yeti Microphone next to an actual YETI, subwoofer on the left, iPad charging in the back. Oh, and don’t forget that stupid Apple Pencil I literally never use. This is where I do the most.
Hmm… what else.
Oh. Water. I don’t have water. I usually buy it bottled because I’m a garbage human being who doesn’t care about the Earth. Jk, that’s not true. But I do place personal convenience over social responsibility which is sad. But Corona is turning things around. Now, I’m drinking from the tap…
Because I’m quarantined!
